Disney’s “Frozen” is now the highest grossing animated movie of all time (overtaking Toy Story 3) and the fifth highest grossing movie of all time. And, believe me, Disney knows a good thing when it see it. The sequel for “Frozen” is being planned and should be released in 2018.
Besides the awards it has already won, including Disney’s first Oscar win for “animated feature” and the best song Oscar for “Let It Go,” Disney CEO Bob Iger has announced plans for a Broadway show.
This phenomenon has impacted merchandise sales, which are expected to top $1 billion this year alone. Elsa’s blue dress is sold out at stores and is selling for as much as $1,000 on EBay. It is a new cult for the kids of today, listening to the songs over and over and requesting all the Frozen merchandise they can manage. Wait lines at Disney parks are up to six hours and kids are excited to wait to see Elsa and Anna. It has been an unexpected, pop-culture sensation in the making.
