The NBC News reported on April 4, 2013, that New York snack food maker Rich Products Corp. of Buffalo announced recall (from March 28) of the suspected food items to a rare and possible life-threatening outbreak of E. coli poisoning.
Around 196,222 pounds of Farm Rich brand frozen chicken quesadillas and other frozen mini meals and snack items that were manufactured at its Waycross, Ga., plant have been recalled..
A press release mentioned that these snacks have Jan. 1, 2013 through Sept. 29, 2014 as best buy dates printed on them. View at the complete list of products, here.
Reportedly, the foods have the possibility of being contaminated with the bacterium E. coli O121.
It must be noted that this bacteria already has affected 24 people in 15 states who were found to have eaten a particular Farm Rich and Market Day frozen chicken quesadillas, pizza slices and other snack foods.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that around seven people have already been hospitalized.
The attack of E. coli bacterium can cause severe illness and disease, including bloody diarrhea, kidney failure and death.
NBC news quoted CDC saying “The New York state Department of Health identified the outbreak strain of E. coli O121 in an opened package of Farm Rich brand frozen mini chicken and cheese quesadillas from an ill person’s home”.
