Walt Disney Pictures' animated musical "Frozen" reclaimed the No. 1 spot at the U.S. and Canadian box office for the weekend ending Jan. 5, 2014. According to a Box Office Mojo report published on Jan. 5, "Frozen" (which was released in 3-D) had $20.7 million in ticket sales that weekend. "Frozen" previously hit No. 1 during the weekend ending on Dec. 8, 2013.

Paramount Pictures' "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" (the only movie that opened in wide release in the U.S. and Canada on Jan. 3, 2014) debuted at No. 2, with $18.2 million in ticket sales. "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" is a spinoff, not a sequel, to the "Paranormal Activity" horror movies that began with 2009's "Paranormal Activity." The next sequel in the series is "Paranormal Activity 5," which will be released on Oct. 22, 2014.

The first week of the year is typically a slow week for movie releases. Ticket sales were also likely affected by huge snowstorms that were taking place in several states and provinces.

According to Box Office Mojo, here are the Top 5 movies in the U.S. and Canada for the weekend ending Jan. 5, 2014:

1. "Frozen" — $20.7 million

2. "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" — $18.2 million

3. "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" — $16.25 million

4. "The Wolf of Wall Street" — $13.4 million

5. "American Hustle" — $13.2 million

And here are the opening-weekend box-office numbers for the movie that opened in limited release on Jan. 3, 2014:

  • "In No Great Hurry: 13 Lessons in Life with Saul Leiter" — $6,100 from one theater
