Reuters photographer Aaron Harris captured a number of great shots of a frozen Niagara Falls as the ice formed on the United States side.

The high temperature earlier this week was a record low of minus 2 degrees and it caused the falls to partially freeze.

This is not the first time there has been a frozen Niagara Falls though. Back in the mid-1900's, there are pictures that show the same situation, but there are a number of experts that aren't entirely sure the pictures are authentic.

According to EnvironmentalGraffiti.com, only once, in 1848, "has freezing weather caused the thousands of cubic feet of water per second flowing over the Niagara Falls to run dry, an event thought to have been caused by ice jamming and damming upriver."

While the frozen Niagara Falls photos from Harris are beautiful and look to be captured in time; the falls did not freeze completely.
