A man dressed in a Frosty the Snowman costume was arrested Saturday morning during Chestertown's annual Christmas parade.
Charged with assault and disorderly conduct, 52 year old Kevin Michael Walsh from Chestertown is accused of kicking at Henzo, a police dog and hitting an officer in the face with the head portion of his costume.
The incident occurred at about 10:15am at Cross and High Street when Kevin made a joke about the dog being at the parade. Henzo was sitting at the intersection with his handler, Pfc. James Walker, as part of traffic control for the parade. When James tried to escort Kevin away from the crowd, things got out of hand and James was allegedly hit with the head of the costume.
James and Pfc. Marty Heinefield placed Kevin on the sidewalk as part of a routine take down and Kevin could be heard screaming,"You have no right to arrest me!" over the noise of the parade as the officers were trying to place him in the patrol car.
Kevin, who has dressed as Frosty the Snowman in the parade for at least ten years said he did nothing wrong and was wrongfully arrested after the officers harassed him when he made the joke about Henzo.
He was released on his own recognizance and is currently already on probation for a September conviction for disorderly conduct.
