On Tuesday, February 25, 2014, Tim Lambesis, frontman of the metalcore band As I Lay Dying, confessed to having hired an undercover detective to murder his wife. He faces up to almost a decade in prison on murder-for-hire charges(Grow, 2014). Lambesis reportedly provided the detective $1,000, along with instructions on how to murder his wife, who had divorced Lambesis late last year. Although he initially pleaded not guilty, he eventually confessed to the crime(Grow, 2014).

Lambesis, a bodybuilding enthusiast, was on steroids when he attempted to hire the detective, according to his lawyer, who believes that the drugs had affected him in such a way that he was no longer in an ordinary state of mind(Grow, 2014). Although the metal band is Christian-themed, Lambesis had reportedly told his ex-wife Meggan that he no longer loved her and no longer believed in God, in addition to having reportedly been repeatedly unfaithful to her(Grow, 2014). Meggan described Tim as "obsessed with bodybuilding," and expressed concern about his ability to care for their children(Grow, 2014). This tragedy, oddly enough, happened not long after the resounding success of their last album, Awakened(Grow, 2014).
