"Downton Abbey" has taken America by storm, and even "Sesame Street" is paying homage with a skit spoofing the popular British period drama. The folks at "Sesame Street" released the video clip from the upcoming show on YouTube on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013. You can view the clip to the side of this article.
The “Sesame Street” Muppets have captured the look and feel of “Downton Abbey” in this skit set at the proverbial dining room table of the estate, but it is upside down. Carson, the butler is serving the Lady Grantham and everything keeps falling downward. It’s quite well-written and sophisticated humor that is surprisingly dead-on in its imitation, especially for a pre-school children’s program. Of course, let’s be honest, not only children love “Sesame Street!”
“Downton Abbey” is set in 1920 England, and its success in England and abroad has been somewhat of a surprise. The breathtaking backdrop of Highclere Castle where the upstairs scenes are shot is part of the mystique. There is a PBS app that you can download to watch past episodes of 'Downton Abbey' here.
