From TIFF to Tribeca ‘Lucky Them’ travels

Following a world premiere during last September’s Toronto International Film Festival, “Lucky Them” had its U.S. premiere Monday evening during the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival.

Thomas Haden Church and Toni Collette star in "Lucky Them."

Not your typical road movie, “Lucky Them” sees Toni Collette as a boozy journalist sent in search of a former glory-boy, all to appease a desperate magazine editor. The road she’s on leads directly to her uncomfortable past.

Hungry for the financial rewards of an attention-grabbing cover story, editor Giles (Oliver Platt) sends his veteran reporter Ellie Klug (Collette) on what could be her last assignment – find a famed musician (the same one who loved her and left her) and tell the story of his mysterious disappearance. Get the story or get fired.

Ellie’s sidekick for her reluctant journey is Charlie (Thomas Haden Church) an inept, aspiring filmmaker who documents her every move.

The film opens in theatres May 30.

Joining Collette for the Tribeca premiere were the film’s director Megan Griffiths and co-stars Platt, Haden Church, Ryan Eggold and Nina Arianda.

Additional Tribeca screenings are scheduled for April 23 and April 26. Visit Tribeca for ticket availability.

The Tribeca Film Festival continues until April 27.

See you at the movies.
