From the Vault: Twenty announced at Pro Tour (Photos)

The twentieth anniversary of Magic: the Gathering is later this year, and there's now yet another reason it'll be a momentous occasion. Earlier this night, Zak Hill and Marshall Sutcliffe announced the name and concept of the upcoming From the Vault product during the Pro Tour Gatecrash online stream. It's to be titled From the Vault: Twenty, and this isn't just a reference to twenty years of Magic, it also means that unlike other fifteen-card From the Vaults, this one will have twenty in it.

More details were made available in Monty Ashley's Magicthegathering.com Arcana article today, including the set symbol, and the tagline: "Twenty Proven Champions!" The new From the Vault, to be released on August 23, was put together by developers Gavin Verhey and Jeremy Jarvis from twenty cards that were centerpieces of famously tournament-winning decks - one card from a deck that dominated each year from 1993 to 2013. It isn't clear whether a card that was printed each of those years will be featured, so that remains to be seen.

The usual additional swag is going to be in the box as well; those who are lucky enough to be able to purchase one of the extremely scarce printings of this From the Vault will get a special Spindown 20-sided die and a collector's guide featuring all twenty cards. The preview art from the announcement points towards Force of Will as a possibility, but this is only a prevailing speculation and none of the cards featured are set in stone. None of them, however, will be from the Reserved List, as these cards will still be tournament-legal in any format their original printings are legal in.
