From the Vault: Exiled

On Friday August 28th, Wizards of the Coast released From the Vault: Exiled.  This limited box set contains fifteen cards from Magic's past that were once considered powerful enough to be banned or restricted from tournament play.

Each of the cards has undergone a special foil process similar to that of cards in From the Vault: Dragons.  Eight of the fifteen cards will have new art, they will all be printed with black borders, and in the current card frame.  For several of the cards it will be the first time that they have been available as a foil.  The boxed set also includes a special collector's guide and a spindown life counter with the From the Vault: Exiled logo on it.

While the MSRP is $34.99 on From the Vault: Exiled, do not expect to find it for that price.  If From the Vault: Dragons released last year is any indicator, the MSRP means nothing.  If you are lucky enough to find From the Vault: Exiled at MSRP then I suggest you buy it.

The reason?  Berserk.  In addition to an already limited print run of highly playable cards, the secondary market value of the included Berserk constitues most if not all of the value of From The Vault: Exiled by itself, and thensome.

A white bordered Berserk from Unlimited can't be found for under $40 on the secondary market.  An even harder to find black bordered Beta version sells for over $100.  That's reason enough to shell out a meager $34.99 for From the Vault: Exiled, nevermind the amazing new picture.  That's provided of course one can manage to find it at MSRP.  However Berserk won't be the only saught after card from this release.

In fact Star City Games is already buying unopened boxes of From the Vault: Exiled for $100 from players.  Now that's financial incentive.

From Vault: Exiled's fifteen featured cards are: Balance, Berserk, Channel, Gifts Ungiven, Goblin Lackey, Kird Ape, Lotus Petal, Mystical Tutor, Necropotence, Sensei’s Divining Top, Serendib Efreet, Skullclamp, Strip Mine, Tinker, and Trinisphere

Of those, Mystical Tutor, Gifts UngivenLotus Petal, Necropotence, Sensei’s Divining TopStrip Mine, and Tinker all see regular play in tornament decks, while the other cards see regular play in casual.  Be it a tournament player or casual player, each of the cards in From the Vault: Exiled is sure to find a home in a player's deck, perhaps yours.
