- Poison-settias: A reader expressed concern about the photo in last week's "parrot's beak" of a goffin's cockatoo posed near poinsettias; rightly pointing out that poinsettias are poisonous to birds - and ironically, the article featured a section on holiday hazards to hookbills. The picture was staged so that the flowers were barely within reach of the bird (and Pippy was distracted by the photographer as it was), she was supervised at all times and the flowers promptly moved after the shoot. No harm done to Pippy or plant!
