Are you haunted by your past or afraid for your future? If so, you’re probably not alone.
Far too many of us live in the nagging shadows of our yesterdays or have unrealistic expectations or fears about the future.
But beating yourself up about past mistakes or worrying about what may happen in the future are counterproductive behaviors that drag us down emotionally and deprive us of taking advantage of opportunities for personal growth and fulfillment that are available to us today.
The mind is a powerful force. People who go through life worrying about making the same mistakes in the future as they did in the past often repeat the mistakes they wish to avoid. Again, those who needlessly worry about what the future holds often discover that the things they fear most – even dread – never come to fruition.
What matters most in whatever walk of life you choose is neither yesterday’s victories or defeats or the uncertainty of a future way off in the horizon.
Rather, what really matters is putting forth your best effort in all you say and do today, seeing the possibility for newness, challenge and opportunity in the present moment of being.
You cannot change the past. It is history and, as such, it is what it is.
And you can’t control the future. It will be what it will be.
But you can live in this present moment of opportunity and make it possible for your mind to create the positive energy you need to make today the very best it can be.
