From student to student, the goal for learning floral designs is different (Video)

From person to person, the purpose of learning floral arranging is different. Some people learn for the purpose of enjoying the life with beautiful hobby like floral arrangements. Some people want to become a floral designer to engage in wedding floral decorations. Some want to work as a volunteer to make floral arrangements for church decorations. Some want to teach floral designs to other people by offering their own classes. Some would like to learn so that they can open their own floral shop.

From volunteer to professional floral designer, from owner of floral shop to instructor of flower arrangements, there are so many people having different goals in learning floral arrangements. The students learning floral art at our school are not exceptional. Although there are some people who do not have a definite goal, what is very clear is that students who want to learn wedding or funeral decorations are planning to engage in floral business or already working as a florist or floral designer.

In order to enroll in business oriented programs such as wedding or funeral course, it is mandatory for students to have basic skills of floral designing or have some educational background related to floral arrangements OR job experience in flower arranging industry. Therefore their attitude for learning floral designs is a little bit different. Namely while many students are “satisfied” with short program such as one day seminar etc. and stop learning without continuing until earning a decent skill, people who sign up for above mentioned business oriented courses do have clear goal of earning skill and they are pretty much task oriented.

Some students especially from Japan want to have their own classes after getting back to Japan and they proceed to Fresh Flower Arrangement Instructor Course by starting from Elementary Course. Although they have had no previous experiences of European floral designs, they successfully earn decent skills and their floral decorations look really good.

No matter what kind of goal they have, I am very happy to do my best to help them so that they can achieve their goal. As they proceed to more advanced program, some students show interest in getting special advice from me such as asking help for doing custom designed arrangement. In many cases they find their favorite designs or decorations in the floral art magazine or internet site specializing in flower arrangements. If such designs are not included in our standard program and if such students qualify to take special lessons judging from their skill level, I always support them by accepting special lessons.

I am pleased to help people who are enthusiastic in making efforts toward their goal.
