After a horrible episode of freezing rain this morning that led to numerous accidents we finally got above the freezing mark by noontime and it was just a plain old rain; overnight we are dealing with locally dense fog as warmer air works in from the south and there will also be some light showers as temperatures will rise through the 40s(and eventually crack the 50s by daybreak). This means that the next system that's rolling in here over the weekend will be all rain, but it shall be heavy at times as well with between 1-2" to fall from tomorrow afternoon through early Sunday morning. There are flood watches in place for the entire region as heavy rain combined with ice-jammed rivers will easily exacerbate the flooding.
Saturday of course will be overcast with rain heavy at times and even some thunderstorms as highs reach 60 or better; temperatures will hold there overnight and into early Sunday morning before the cold front pushes through before sunrise as temperatures fall through the day. Overnight Sunday into Monday it will be clear as lows reach the freezing mark. Despite a cold front pushing through Monday will be a nice day filled with sunshine with highs over 50 degrees! We cloud up overnight and into Tuesday when another quick-moving system pushes from the south and bring us another round of locally heavy rain with highs in the upper 50s.
Behind this system on Wednesday not only will temperatures drop from about 50 down through the 40s and then the 30s before sunset, but also ANOTHER quick hitting piece of energy across the Plains will slide through by the evening and provide some light snow with temperatures below freezing; I am not going to go out on a limb right now and predict a snowfall amount as I always feel that you have to wait until one system sets up first before the other one can do it's job(just like putting together pieces of a puzzle).
Our one below average day will be on Thursday with highs in the middle 30s, but then it's back to a more seasonable day to end out the work week with a high in the lower 40s.
