On Monday, January 28, the public is invited to attend the first installment of Off The Record, a new monthly music series presented by saki and the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. To kick off the free series, Brokeback will perform tracks from their new album Brokeback & the Black Rock at 7:00 pm followed by a reception with Provenance snacks, Goose Island beverages, and a DJ set from Thrill Jockey Records on 3716 West Fullerton Avenue in Logan Square.
Having just returned from performing at the Presidential Inauguration, Walt Whitman’s Soul Children of Chicago will perform a special concert at 2:00 pm on February 9. This Family Series performance is in celebration of Black History Month and includes songs performed at the Inauguration. Tickets are $10 for the concert which takes place at Chicago’s Harris Theatre on 205 East Randolph Drive.
On February 19, City Winery Chicago on 1200 West Randolph Street welcomes the Michigan quintet Deadly Gentlemen. The 7:30 pm show features bluegrass with a blend of rock-n-roll. On Sunday, February 24, Company of Thieves plays at the winery. Fronted by Genevieve Schatz and guitarist Marc Walloch, the Chicago-born indie rock outfit takes its inspiration from The Beatles, Billie Holliday, Fiona Apple, Radiohead, Elliott Smith and Nirvana.
