From Girl Scout to Princess: Good work if you can get it

Even a young woman lucky enough to marry a prince was once a little girl. Catherine Middleton, who just married Prince William Arthur Philip Louis Windsor (wow, that's a name!), was once a Girl Guide in her hometown. Looking cute in her uniform, Princess Kate (center of back row) was once a Brownie. She now goes by the title Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. OK, every Girl Scout isn't going to marry a prince, there aren't enough to go around, but Girl Scouting will help any girl be more self-assured, and that will get you a long ways towards being the best you can be all on your own.

Some other famous women who were once Girl Scouts or Girl Guides are (these are just a few of many):

  • Mariah Carey
  • Lucille Ball
  • Martha Stewart
  • Sandra Day O'Conner
  • Hillary Clinton
  • Barbara Walters
  • Katie Couric
  • Sheryl Crow
  • Nancy Reagan
  • Bette Davis
  • Venus Williams
  • Dorothy Hamill
  • Dakota Fanning
  • Kathleen Turner

Since Girl Scouting started in 1912, nearly 50 million women in the United States have been Girl Scouts. It's no surprise, then, that many of those young girls went on to become accomplished professionals in a variety of fields. In addition to the celebrities on the list there were successful women in every walk of life including famous doctors, lawyers, astronauts, political leaders, judges, athletes and business owners.

Girl Scouting lays the foundation for a solid future. Girls have a wonderful opportunity to develop their leadership abilities, polish their problem-solving and critical thinking skills and learn how to be team players.
