From flab to fab: all in your living room!

Not enough money for the gym? Hate the crowds? Need to get in shape but don’t want bulk? Do you want personalized plan? Pilates may just be for you. Pilates is a serious way of exercise that does bring results. Just look at Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Lee Curtis, Hugh Grant, Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron and many, many more!

Invented by Joseph H. Pilates, this technique improves your mental and physical well-being, increases flexibility, and strengthens muscles. Pilates uses controlled movements in the form of mat exercises or equipment to tone and strengthen the body. The Pilates method of body conditioning is a unique system of stretching and strengthening exercises.

As we age (and women have children), our abdominal wall gets weaker, we are more sedentary and our posture starts changing. As the muscles in the back also weaken, we lean forward and can’t get rid of that persistent lower back pain. Along with strengthening and toning muscles, Pilates improves posture, balance and unites body and mind, which helps create a more streamlined shape. It focuses on all the abdominal muscles and all the muscles that surround the lower back. Pilates can also boost your metabolism, relieve unwanted tension and help condition the body without punishing it.

Is Pilates a “women’s exercise”? Absolutely not! Remember, a man invented it and followed the routine his whole life, looking wonderful well into his 80s. Originally, Pilates was a form of exercise that dancers (Joseph Pilates worked with dancers in New York) used. Then gymnasts caught on to it, and now they use it as a form of their regiment.

Do you have to go to a studio to do this? Absolutely not! Here is the best part: Christie Funchess, a certified instructor that has been teaching in Columbia, SC for 8 years, is available for private lessons. You may contact her at 803-528-0298. She is open to sessions for you and your friends. Have a solo lesson or get a group together, and there may be some deals to be made! Don’t wait any longer, when you see Christie, you’ll see just how well Pilates work.
