After reaching a career peak with the massive success of 'Alice in Wonderland,' director Tim Burton is bringing another spooky, ooky creation to the screen. Snap your fingers and welcome the return of 'The Addams Family' in 3D animated form.
Tim Burton has the biggest hit of his career with Disney's "Alice in Wonderland." So, what is his follow-up? How about an animated 3D version of Charles Addams' legendary "Addams Family."
(I'll pause for the swoon over the news of this marriage between art and artist. It does beg the question, what took it so long for Burton and Addams to get together. It is such a natural fit.)
Already immortalized in The New Yorker, a hit television series, films and an upcoming Broadway musical, Burton's "Family" will be a stop-motion creation based on Addams' original drawings for Illumination
Entertainment. The project is a much-needed shot in the arm for Universal Pictures, which has been floundering at the box office of late.
Deadline.com is reporting the project "is unrelated to previous incarnations of Addams’ work." Producing the film is former Fox exec Chris Meladandri with Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation as executive producer. A screenwriter has yet to be named, but Burton's own hand will be heavily present in the aesthetic of the film.
