Frisco to appeal "recognized" rating

Frisco ISD announced last night that it will appeal its Texas Education Agency "recognized" rating on the grounds of "fundamental fairness." The district just missed earning an exemplary rating because of its completion rates.

Frisco Superintendent Ricky Reed said they showed required improvement to move from acceptable to recognized.

According to the Dallas News report, the district went from 87 percent of its economically disadvantaged students completing high school in 2007 to 92.5 percent in 2008.

To receive the exemplary rating, 95 percent must complete high school.

"No other district of our size and diversity has come close to earning an exemplary rating," said Reedy. "We are going to leave no stone unturned. We owe it to our teachers, principals and students."

As reported last week, the Carrollton-Farmers Branch is also appealing their rating.
