Frilled Oculus is one of the newest Blue cards from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set "Gatecrash." Featured in the "Simic Synthesis" intro pack, Frilled Oculus is a small, sneaky threat.

Creature - Homunculus (Common)
1G: Frilled Oculus gets +2/+2 until end of turn. Activate this ability only once each turn.

Blue doesn't typically get very powerful common creatures, however Frilled Oculus is an aggressive departure. Transforming into a 3/5 for just two additional mana, Frilled Oculus makes a beefy blocker and a fantastic early threat for Simic players in limited.
Because Frilled Oculus can grow in size, your opponent will have to make some hard decisions when it comes to blocking, especially if they don't have any creatures with a toughness of four. Double blocking your Frilled Oculus just so they can deal five damage isn't an attractive option for them, and the result is your Frilled Oculus sneaking by unblocked.
