Frigid temperatures impact runners schedules

The New Year has certainly been interesting. The frigid temperatures are really impacting runner’s schedules. Even some of the toughest threw in the towel today with a brutal wind on top of the single digit temperatures. The weather today for sure made running more brutal than exhilarating. The boardwalks where you could almost always see at least a few runners were desolate.

Temperatures are supposed to climb all the way up into the 20’s on Tuesday and by the weekend into the 50’s.

So don’t give up hope. A few days off sometimes is good and will give your body some time to recuperate and you will be fresh for your next run.

The racing season is not very busy but group runs and winter series are under way. The Freehold Area Running Club had to cancel their first week of their series this ps Sunday due to the snow and will kick off this Sunday.

Special Olympic New Jersey will be having their re-scheduled “Jingle All the Way 3k” this Saturday.

So get out and run. Here are some upcoming opportunities in the next few days;

Thursday, January 9, 6 p.m. Thursday Group Run, Bar A, Lake Como, N.J.

Saturday, January 11, 10:30 a.m., 3k, Jingle All the Way 3k, Lawrenceville, N.J. .re-scheduled date

Sunday, January 12, 8 a.m. 3, 6, 10 plus miles, Sunday Hot Chocolate Run, Bodman Park, Middletown, N.J.

Sunday, January 12, 5K, 10 a.m.., FARC Winter Series, Tighe Park, Freehold, N.J Winter Series Preview

Sunday, January 12, N.J Winter Trail Series Race 3- Lewis Morris Park, Morristown, N.J.

Sunday, January 12, 1 p.m.. Browning Ross Winter Series 5K, Rowan University, Glassboro, N.J

The Run for the End Zone 6k which was scheduled for February 1, 2014 in Montclair has been cancelled.

And there are plenty of Group Runs all over the area to keep you motivated.
