Tired of mainstream theater? Couldn't give a toss about the Oscars? The Frigid Festival is offering some amazing new talents for the next 10 days. What about a performance by The Bitter Poet aka Kevin Draine? His solo show entitled Looking for love in all the wrong blackbox performance spaces is a crossroads between hardcore rock philosophy and high-energy entertainment. Draine is not only hilarious but an accomplished musician as well. Another one-man show is FUNNY the trunk show by Denmo Ibrahim. In a tragi-comical monologue immigrant Mohamed tells his story about the endless trips to the immigration office and the often ridiculous formalities that need to be taken care of. It is almost reminiscent of Kafka when one day Mohamed decides to bring in his trunk full of life. Ibrahim proves to be extremely witty with a sharp eye for human experience.
Another highlight is Goodnight lovin' trail by the Rising Sun Performance Company. When two lonely travelers meet at a truck stop diner in Texas they discover they have much more in common than despair and solitude. Actors Nic Mevoli and Olivia Rorick form an unexpected duo full of raw conflicts and sparkling emotions. Goodnight lovin' trail was developed and produced at the Actors Studio of Drama. A wonderful opportunity to see a couple of talented actors in a superb drama.
These are just a few examples of this exciting festival. It's for a good cause too as all proceeds go straight to the artists. Thus, get your trainers out and try and see as many shows as possible! For a complete overview check www.frigidnewyork.info
