Friendships are a beautiful thing to have in one’s life; makes one feel special and a part of something important. Some people end up moving from another state to Oklahoma where they befriend others who did the same. Others have moved into an Oklahoman local area from another US state or nation and made friends with native Oklahomans. These types of friendships are a great way to expand one’s horizons. This is a great way to learn from one another – get exposed to new ideas and cultures.
A set of friends who originated in other states, now residing in Oklahoma City, claim they enjoy getting together once a month for their “Ladies Adventure.” Their get-together has become a large group thing, includes several ladies who have become tight-knit in their friendship. Each month their group chooses what to do which includes visiting museums, the Oklahoma City Zoo with their children, botanical gardens, Art Fairs or dining out. They love getting together once a month, either as Ladies-only or with their families.
Another group from Tulsa, two couples, has become good friends; three of them are from other US states while one is a “born and bred” Oklahoman. The native Oklahoman enjoys this type of friendship with his wife and the other couple because doing fun things with another couple enhances his marriage and life. He claims the four of them look forward to once a month dining out followed by doing something enjoyable. October 2013, these two couples plan to attend Tulsa’s Oktoberfest, has become an annual group event for them. They call their group outing “This Month’s Grand Adventure” which to all four of them makes it more special.
An Oklahoma City resident claimed she enjoyed “escaping with her friend from Florida” because she is usually home with her retired husband. She says she loves her husband, but now that he is retired they get enough time together, a lot more than when he worked. She claims getting out of the house with her Floridian friend is wonderful for it gifts a break from the ordinary. She also loves hearing about Florida, sharing common interests with her working lady friend, and doing things that women enjoy doing like shopping at a mall, frequenting cultural food type restaurants (cuisine from other countries), getting nails and hair done, as well as other feminine kinds of fun that men prefer not to participate. Both friends claim they love their “adventures.” They do their best to do their “adventures” regularly, at least once a month.
Viewing an outing with a friend as an adventure can create a happy exciting attitude toward the entire time together; make it more special. The more adventures one shares with another, the closer one will become which is very life enhancing. William Penn said it best, “A true friend freely, advises justly, assists readily, adventures boldly, takes all patiently, defends courageously, and continues a friend unchangeably.” Enjoy the day!
