Rolling into Boys Republic in Chino Hills you notice the many sponsor signs for the Friends of Steve McQueen Car and Motorcycle Show. As you pull up to the easy up where people in event shirts hand you a program as you hand them the entry fee which was ten dollars.
The money raised goes to help the programs and young men at the Boys Republic which according to their website: “is a private, non-profit, nonsectarian school and treatment community for troubled youngsters”.
Steve McQueen was a well-known actor and motorsports enthusiast enjoyed both Cars and Motorcycles.
The grounds at Boys Republic were well covered with cars of all makes, ages and types. One part had vintage camping trailers, one had Porsches, and a group of dune buggies were set up in the volley ball court among all the muscle cars, Minis, Corvettes and even a electric powered VW bug from Zelectric Motors.
The area for the motorcycles was covered in a similar manner with makes from Honda, BMW, Triumph, Norton and Harley-Davidson.
Two motorcycle shops had displays out for their machines. Dustin Kott of Kott Motorcycles had a cafe style Honda 550 and Mark Mothshagen of Dutchman Motorbike has some of motorized bicycles on display.
Vendors surrounding the included ones selling tacos, lemonade, tater sticks, jewelry, clothing and metal signs.
Prolong’s Wild Thang fired up the flames for the crowd and the Burning Rubber Toy Company was selling lots of toy cars.
Food was provided by In-N-Out Burgers and Roscoe's Famous BBQ and the lines were long for both vendors.
The awards were given out at 1:00 p.m. and as there were lots of classes to award to it took to almost 2:00 p.m. to hand them all out. For one hundred dollars you could take a glider ride, fifty of those dollars went to Boys Republic.
This a nice event that I look forward to attending next year.
