Oscar Pistorius is out on bail, reportedly shattered about the events which lead to his murder charge. But, according to an article published by iTV on March 10, 2013, he's got a new worry: going broke from skyrocketing legal fees.
The prospect has him so shaken, a friend says he fears Pistorius is contemplating suicide.
The fear was prompted in "Uncle Mike" Azzie, a trusted adviser to the Olympic superstar, since Pistorius was forced to sell his racehorses to raise the funds for his defense after killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day.
Pistorius says it was an accident, but leaked police reports say the shooting didn't look like Pistorius was shooting at what he thought was an intruder.
Of course, that's for a court case to decide. But, in the meantime, it looks like Oscar Pistorius will have to break the bank on his modest fortune, which was just starting to burgeon with endorsement deals.
According to the article, Azzie told the BBC "I would say that, just speaking to him, that he is a broken man and that I would go as far to say that he would be on the verge of suicide. It really worries me."
That's ominous and one of the reasons defendants are rarely granted bail on murder charges in the US. They can be put on suicide watch and monitored 24/7. It doesn't always work, but it is a proactive step.
Maybe Oscar Pistorius is safer in jail?
