Deconstructing Theodicy: Why Job Has Nothing to Say to the Puzzle of Suffering by David Burrell

God will allow His children to suffer. God will allow a loved one to die. God will allow sickness. God has commanded that His people submit to godly authority.

There are many things that God does to teach us, but let me share with you what God is not on God’s Life Lesson plan. God does not authorize abuse to humble us. God does not kill a loved one so that we will learn to trust Him. God will not give us cancer to give us a healing ministry. God has not ordained people in ministry to replace the leading of the Holy Spirit to teach us submission.

Just because people are going through a hard time, especially if they have been going through for a long time, do not jump to conclusion and assume that they have done something wrong. Just maybe they have been doing something right and God has been bragging on them.

“Then the Lord asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil.”

If are going through a hard time today, stop listening to Job’s friends. If you are one of Job’s friends, shut up! “So the LORD blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning” (Job 42:12).
