Friday Night Tasting
Friday, October 7, 2011
Join in this Friday night for sampling three wines from Italy.
Altadonna Vermentino-2009 Italy- From the Tuscany region. On the nose, this wine possesses clean mineral notes and ripe citrus and pear with a mild peppery hint. Green apple and lime deliver a refreshing acidity and richness to the palate, marking the unique personality of this varietal.
TAMI Frappato Sicila Rosso-2010-Italy-Frappato is a local Sicilian red grape variety that always seems to yield wines that are loaded with fresh raspberry aromatics. Bright ruby, light bodied-but darkly translucent. Lush floral aromatics with raspberry and earthiness on the nose. On the palate, loaded with raspberry, sour cherry and cranberry. Bright, fresh, pure and acidic. Stunning and delicious. Medium bodied.
"Gertrude" Toscano La Maialina 2008-Italy- 45% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. This is an old world style Tuscan Red: Big, Bold, and Full-bodied. The tannins are rounded, the dark fruit is subtle with a long and lingering finish. Pairs well with all red sauced pasta dishes, steaks and BBQ ribs.
