The documentary film God Loves Uganda explores the human rights crisis in Uganda caused by a campaign to change African culture with values imported from the American Christian Right.
Like countries across the world, Uganda had its own share of home-grown homophobia before Christian evangelicals began exporting the U.S. culture wars. But several years of anti-gay propaganda by Rick Warren, Scott Lively, and other evangelical leaders have been instrumental in shaping public attitudes in Uganda. The result has been an increase in hate crimes against LGBT people and draconian anti-gay legislation.
God Loves Uganda will be screened at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, September 6 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 West Weisheimer Road. Rev. Mark Belletini and Rev. Eric Meter of First UU will lead a discussion after the film.
All are welcome. Free will donations are requested to help cover the distribution cost of the film.
