For teenagers, Friday night High School football games is the place to be for entertainment. Friends and parents come out to see other friends or children participating either on the football team, the band and/or the cheerleaders. So was Friday night at Tropical Park stadium in the Westchester suburb of Miami-Dade County. The weather was great throughout the game which ended with a result of Killian shutting out South Miami High School, 21-0. Both teams played excellent defense throughout the game. Neither teams' running game could gain any ground but Killian's offense was able to convert on three scoring drives during the game. South Miami had a scoring chance towards the end of the 1st half driving to the Killian 10 yard line but had to settle for a Field Goal which was blocked as time expired. The play of the game was in the middle of the fourth quarter when a Killian player outran a tired South Miami defense for a 55 yard catch and run score.
For a football fan, the following comforting scenes signify the joy of football season: Young children were standing in the aisles with their friends and played as their parents gossiped. Other parents waved to their children who were on the field playing or dancing and taking pictures with their smartphones. Mothers and fathers held babies in their arms as they watched the game holding others distracted trying to get the baby's attention. Young students walked in with an entourage of friends and looked up at the stands to pick a good spot. Smiles would crowd their faces as they saw other groups of friends and got ready to joke around and laugh a little or a lot outside of their daily school routines. Not many football teams can say their mission is to make the playoffs, but all teams know that a new school year brings football and with that is fun.
