This week’s Oakland Jam Bands Examiner Friday live and legal download is Jerry Joseph & the Jackmormons at The New Parish in Oakland on July 8 and July 9, 2011. Normally I attempt to stick with one concert per live and legal download, but a taper over at bt.etree.org has merged these two shows into a cannot miss three-disc option.
Jerry Joseph tours by himself, with the Jackmormons and with his other side project Stockholm Syndrome. It seems this rocker just can’t get enough of the stage. Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons have released four albums, but this show is my first taste of the group. After several listens, I’m excited about their return to the Oakland area on October 15, when Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons play Café Du Nord in San Francisco. Should this be your first sampling of the group as well, you will find familiar tunes mixed into their works, including The Beatles “Come Together” during “Big Things” from their first night at New Parish.
The music has attitude and soul without sacrificing quality rock musicianship. The band moves from song to song, using segues most of the show, keeping the pace quick. On the second night at the New Parish, Jerry Joseph & the Jackmormons played the after show for Widespread Panic. They kept the energy going, from the just finished WSP show at the Fox Theater, with “Pure Life,” “Beautiful Dirt,” and “Hallelujah Trail” at the start.
Both shows ofJerry Joseph & the Jackmormons on bt.etree.org are available in flac format. The files are good quality, but more importantly, so is the quality of the recording. You get the feel of the band’s sound in the small room. Download it, share it and seed it for others. Remember the music is free to swap and share, but illegal to sale.
