Friday is DJ night at the Pasadena Museum of California Art

Remember the freshman back in high school who threw ragers at his parents' house, even after they put thousands of dollars into making it look like an art museum?  Well, this party is a lot like that party... except it actually is at an art museum.  Like the Getty before it, the Pasadena Museum of California Art has succeeded in transforming the art-viewing experience into something L.A. residents recognize more immediately: a night out.  This Friday, they're throwing a DJ party on the terrace complete with live mural painting, a cash bar, and two open galleries.  The artists performing have work in the museum's Los Angeles River exhibit, a four-month showcase whose list of sponsors includes much-adored local couple Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.  DJ Lady Kate, Crier, and Sonny Phono will provide musical entertainment.  You'll also find samples of work from the Sumi Ink Club, an artistic collaborative that invites guests to grab a brush and ink and cover the walls of the PMCA's Project Room.  Like I always say, if a museum lets you paint on its walls, take it home to Mom: it's a keeper.  Friday, April 16, 7-10pm, $5 Admission.  490 E. Union St., Pasadena, CA.
