Fresno students to challenge Guinness records

Students at Fresno State University are getting ready to earn their way into the Guinness World Records, the university announced Wednesday.

The students will challenge the world record for most people wearing sunglasses in the dark at the same time, and the record for longest paper-link chain.

The record for most people wearing sunglasses at the same time is 424, the university said. The Shades at Knight will try to persuade at least 1,000 attending the Dec. 3 Fresno Monsters hockey game at Selland Arena to simultaneously wear sunglasses for a minimum of 10 minutes.

Video cameras will roll to document the hoped-for record.

The game begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission $10 and there is a $20 fundraiser package offering a ticket, t-shirt and sunglasses. Proceeds will help pay to renovate King Arthur’s Castle at Rotary Storyland and Playland at Roeding Park in Fresno.

Links of Love will assemble paper links into a chain from 10 a.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2-3, at a warehouse in downtown Fresno. If students and volunteers can assemble enough of the 18-inch paper links to stretch past 54.33 miles, they will earn the record.

People have purchased links and made donations that will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, according to the university.

All students involved are testing their marketing skills as a Marketing 188 project.
