Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com.

When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination.

2014 spring season- Week 7- June 2nd-June 7th

Male

Jackson Coutts- Orono- baseball- The freshman had three hits and a walk (reaching base in all four plate appearances) and also was the winning pitcher in 10-0 victory over Dexter. Went 2-3, including 2 two run home runs and also walked twice in 13-2 victory over Central. Coutts scored six runs in the two games this week.

Coutts is the ninth student/athlete from Orono high school to earn athlete of the week honors. The only other school who has more than five different AOW winners is Foxcroft Academy, who also have had nine winners. Click here to see the full list of winners.

Coutts and the Red Riots finished the regular season with a 9-7 record and the seventh seed in the final MPA class C standings. Orono will host Madawaska in a prelim game on Monday.

Runner up

Nick Decker- Foxcroft- baseball- Pitched a total of 6.2 shutout innings in 10-7 win over John Bapst. Decker pitched the first five innings, he came back in the game to pitch the final 1.2 innings.

Other nominations

Hunter Campbell- Central- baseball- Had two home runs and six RBI in 13-11 victory over Penquis.

Nate Burns- PCHS- baseball- Had three hits and three RBI in 13-5 win over Dexter.
