You will be as amazed as we were to discover this delicious sandwich shop named Fresh right there at Straight Wharf, just across the street from the Grand Union at 5 Salem St. Fresh is also Harpoon Liquors, and sells a variety of beer, wine and liquor. But for the past four years, Fresh has been an outstanding purveyor of delicious hand-made fresh sandwiches and salads.
In addition to excellent sandwiches, since they have beer, wine, cheese and ice, the owner Josh Harde noted that they are a one stop shop for your trip to the beach or boat. We photographed and watched them make a Treehugger vegetarian sandwich, a Capone Italian sandwich and a fresh tuna and green salad.
All of the sandwiches (except the lobster roll) are $8.95 and the salads $750 to $10.95. They have a check-off order form where you can have them make you a custom sandwich or salad as well.
We sampled the Treehugger sandwich and are glad we did: it was amazingly delicious. It’s made up of hummus, roasted peppers, cucumbers, arugula and tomato on multigrain.
They say their most popular sandwiches are:
The Capone: Capicola, ham, salami, provolone, bananapeppers, pickles, onions, tomato, green leaf lettuce and herbed balsamic vinaigrette on a raosted garlic ciabatta.
The Smoky Yardbird: Smoked turkey breast with muenster cheese, arugula, basil aioli on honey wheat.
NYA Lobster Roll: Chunks of lobster claw and knuckle mixed with fresh dill and lemon zest ($16.00).
In the morning, the provide breakfast sandwiches, and after 5pm they also offer sushi.
This is a pretty amazing variety of creative food from this small shop, and we are sure to visit regularly. Fresh is open from May through October and is well worth a visit.
