Fresh blueberries are available locally at Farmers’ Market

Blueberries lead the fruit family as a top ten super food.  The blueberry makes the list because of the amazing nutritional benefits it has to offer.

  • Only 80 calories per cup and no fat.
  • One serving of blueberries meets about 25 percent of the daily vitamin C requirement.
  • High in fiber.
  • Anti-oxidant super food.  Anthocyanins are the anti-oxidants responsible for giving the berry its deep blue color and also helping to protect our bodies from many diseases and pre-mature aging.   Excessive inflammation in the body leads to many age related diseases and blueberries can aid in calming down this inflammation.

Nothing beats locally grown and freshly picked blueberries.  Riley Creek Blueberry Farm is a family owned and operated business located in Laclede, ID.   Laclede is approximately 60 miles northeast of Spokane toward Priest River.   If you are not up for the drive you can find them at the Farmers’ Market in Coeur d’Alene on Saturday, September 3 and Saturday, September 10.  Kaileen, an employee of the farm, said that they should be picking blueberries for the next couple of weeks and then the season will end for the year.   They will also be selling their blueberry jam, syrup and vinaigrette.
