Steven Klein's shoot of Lara Stone: French Vogue, October Edition
French Vogue has found itself entangled in a heap of controversy recently when it pictured pregnant models with cigarettes in hand, glamorous women with blood pouring from their mouths, and emblems of the satanic star. However, in the October edition a new debate has surfaced when a popular white model was photographed wearing black face paint.
The Fash Pack, a popular fashion blog noted, “It's ironic timing that, just after the issue of race came up at London Fashion Week with PPQ staging an all-black-model runway show, French Vogue is catching heat for a controversial photo shoot with Lara Stone.
The magazine praises her for a “radical break with the wave of anorexic models.” However, Dominique Sopo, President of SOS Racisme, French organization, calls the shoot “tactless.” And said, “If the aim was artistic, and not to pass off the model as a black girl, the fact that it produces such reactions shows that the world of images – advertising, fashion, whatever – is now paying for its long tradition of not allowing black people to show their bodies in public.”
According to a new Rasmussen Reports poll, only 14-percent of African-Americans now feel society is fair and decent and 66-percent of black voters think society is unfair and discriminatory (this number is up 26-percent from September).
What do you think? Has French Vogue gone too far with its October edition?

why is it that we can have an "all-black-model runway show"? that, to me, seems racist. There are several areas that have "all black" but whites are unable to claim this as racist. What if there had been an all-white-model runway show? would there be major controversy then? If we'd painted a black model white, would there have been controversy?
I think the racist card is pulled too often. We all need to move on.
Yes, they have gone too far! Are they trying to be funny or something? Because surprise, it's not.
The pictures of these pregnant models seen smoking and throwing their babies around is inappropriate. Why add black paint or blood painted on a models face? There is no purpose for this.
Vogue is about the CLOTHING the models have on, let them simply look like normal women, because that is how the clothes should be worn. The clothes should get attention for the way they are designed, not the accessories and embellishments around them.
This is beyond sick!!!!!! Vogue has gone too far! The question is not about race it is about taste and values. I agree with Dottie Lynn - satanic pictures, pregnant models seen smoking and throwing their babies around - all of this is inappropriate for any day and age. There is absolutly NO GOOD purpose for any of this!!!! Very distructive if you ask me!
I agree with Dottie and Disgusted. I think Vogue is just crazy. I think the whole modeling industry is crazy. Why do women still feel the need to be a part of such a crazy and insane industry? I personally think even without the goulish, racist, and satanic behavior, the whole modeling industry is sexist. No real woman worth her salt should want to be a part of it.
