Baked French Toast Recipe
Ingredients for Baked French Toast:
- 1 loaf bread (Challah, Sour Dough, French, Brioche are all great breads for this)
- 8 eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ¾ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons vanilla
- ½ cup butter, cut into pieces
- ½ cup flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- ¼ tsp. salt
Directions for making Baked French Toast:
Butter a 9 x 13 baking dish. Cut the bead into cubes and evenly distribute it in the prepared dish.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla. Pour the milk mixture evenly over the bread. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight (no less than 2 – 3 hours).
Topping: In a small bowl, using a fork or pastry cutter, mix together the butter, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt for the topping. This mixture should look like fine pebbles. Store it in a plastic bag or airtight container in the refrigerator until you are ready to bake the French toast.
When you’re ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Remove the plastic wrap from the French toast; evenly sprinkle it with the topping mixture. Bake for 45 – 50 minutes or until puffed and set.
Scoop out portions and drizzle with maple syrup.
