French president Francois Hollande and Valerie Trierweiler, Hollande's partner of several years, have ended their relationship amid allegations that he cheated on her with a woman named Julie Gayet, an actress.

According to a new CNN report, the French president and the first lady made their split official on Saturday. On Jan. 26, 2014, Trierweiler took to Twitter to say her goodbyes to presidential palace staff.

The message on Twitter was sent from Trierweiler's confirmed official Twitter account. It read:

Toute ma gratitude va à l'extraordinaire personnel de l'Elysée. Je n'oublierai jamais son dévouement ni l'émotion au moment du départ.

Here is the English translation:

My gratitude goes to the wonderful staff of the Elysee. I will never forget their dedication or emotion at the time of departure.

It wasn't so long ago that Francois Hollande was threatening to sue over cheating allegations. See the video at the top of this page for more details. Now, amid those cheating allegations, the French president and his partner have decided to call it quits.

Of course, it is important to note that the French president has not admitted to any wrongdoing or cheating despite the split. The couple was not married.
