French Marketing in Book Hill

It was a warm, pleasant Friday to step into Georgetown and spend a day at the open air European market set up on Wisconsin Avenue, NW. Georgetown BID hosts its Eighth Annual French Market on April 29 and 30. Friday, visitors got a glimpse of what is actually going to take place the next day. They visited vending booths, shops and restaurants in the Book Hill district of Georgetown.

Customers can get deals up to 70 percent off of the original price on home goods; jewelry; and fashion. A Mano had extensive deals on their merchandise for up to 75 percent off; most of which are off-season. Savor decadent and rich Belgian chocolate at Leonidas Chocolates. Everything in their store is 20 percent off. The Easter chocolates are 40 percent off.

Speaking of food, Book Hill Bistro, previously named Mid-Town Café, served samples of ceviche and croque monsieur. The recently opened restaurant gave customers an opportunity to experience modern American cuisine with global influences. The croque monsieur wasn’t so bad. Just a bit runny on the cheese!

Shops like The French Apartment and Catharine Roberts and Moss & Co., that sell mostly French antiques and goods, made visitors feel like they were in the countryside with a French-style garden in the back. Take a seat on the settee, feel the breeze and look up at the blue sky (Sounds a little romantic but that is what’s so unique about France).

Parents can buy unique and classic clothing for their children at The Magic Wardrobe and Piccolo Piggies. The Magic Wardrobe creates and designs clothes for children from everyday to haute couture. Piccolo Piggies sells clothes and accessories for both mothers and their children with a range of maternity clothing and designer baby bags.

French Connections, a small shop in North Carolina, has an array of imported fabrics, French antiques, and African baskets on display. They are directly situated in front of Patissierie Poupon, a French pastry shop. The fabrics and baskets are colorful and intricately woven.

Tomorrow will be even better because there will be more activities like face painting, live music, and special prizes. Clyde’s of Georgetown will be serving lobster rolls on a French baguette. And not to forget, there will be more special deals at shops and restaurants. The Georgetown French Market is located in the Book Hill section on Wisconsin Avenue between Reservoir Road and P Streets, NW. It’s best to take public transportation to the event.
