French and Bruce lead CMCC to quarterfinal victory over Warren Wilson

Susie French recorded 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals to power the Central Maine Community College (CMCC) Mustangs to a 79-58 victory over Warren Wilson in a Women's division II quarterfinal game played on Thursday evening at Uniontown, PA.

Gabby Foy scored the first five points of the game for the Mustangs, who never trailed.

Samantha Bruce scored 23 points in 22 minutes.

Bruce shot 6-9 from the field and 9-11 from the free throw line.

The Mustangs took their biggest lead of the first half when Bruce nailed a three pointer to give them a 23-16 lead with 9:16 remaining.

Warren Wilson cut the deficit to 39-37 when they scored the first basket of the second half.

CMCC scored the next nine points and 13 out of the next 15 points to take a comfortable 13 point lead.

The Mustangs went 6-6 from the free throw line in the final three minutes.

CMCC (23-2) will face Berkeley (NY) in a semifinal game on Friday evening at 9 p.m.

Foy finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Laura Soohey added seven points, nine rebounds, and two blocks. Hannah Champagne recorded five points, four assists, and three steals.

Maggie McConkey chipped in with four points, three rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

Jasmine Ramos, Jaime Swart, and Lexi Larson scored three points each.

Lilyia Bradbury led Warren Wilson with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

The CMCC men's team fell 103-101 in overtime to Penn State Beaver in a quarterfinal game on Thursday. Shaun Hill scored 46 points for the Mustangs.
