Freeze dried meals and other aid to the Philippines

The North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church gives aid to the Philippines in many ways. Missionaries from the conference were already in the Philippines when Typhoon Haiyan hit on November 8, 2013.
The Filipino people call it Typhoon Yolanda and it was deadly, killing over 5,000 people and leaving more injured, homeless and without food and medical care. The missionaries there were able to respond immediately through their field office UMCOR-Philippines, acting as early responders to provide emergency supplies and assess storm damages.
From the Atlanta Metro Area, the congregation made freeze-dried meals for families. On Sunday after the typhoon, the congregation made the auditorium the sanctuary. And morning service was spent measuring, filling, packing and labeling packages for shipping. They did it for the victims. Men, women, and youth participated in a massively organized chaotic effort to provide over 100,000 freeze-dried meals for the displaced families.
The Philippines is one of the countries established as a Bridges Missions Partner with the North Georgia Conference. A mission’s trip is scheduled from the end of January into February, 2014. You can contact Herzen Andone or Kenny Ott to volunteer. It is their mission to encourage others to “Be There. Be Hope.” Go. Pray. Give.
