Following their redemption dance, contestants performed a freestyle dance on the first night of the finale of Dancing with the Stars. The freestyle dance is a dance in which the contestants are not required to adhere to the rules of ballroom dancing.
Hip-hop
Actor Kyle Massey and dance partner Lacey Schwimmer danced hip-hop to “Tootsie Roll. “ The judges thought that the dance was “fun” and “great entertainment.”
Tango
Teen activist Bristol Palin and dance partner Mark Ballas danced the Tango to “Cell Block Tango” from the 1975 Broadway musical, Chicago, and the 2002 movie of the same name.
At the beginning of their performance, Bristol was dancing in a cage, after which there was much movement across the dance floor. The judges thought that it was a very ambitious dance, and Len Goodman described Bristol’s performance as “fantastic."
Freestyle to Dirty Dancing song
Actress Jennifer Grey and dance partner Derek Hough danced their freestyle to Dirty Dancing song, “Do You Love Me (Now That I Can Dance).” It was truly reminiscent of Jennifer Grey as Baby and Patrick Swayze as dance instructor Johnny Castle.
Their freestyle was fun, and had high energy and many lifts. The judges were very impressed by their freestyle, and described it as “amazing, perfect, fantastic, and brilliant.” The judges gave Jennifer and Derek a perfect score of 30.
