Ian Highsmith, 25, of 11 Hope Place, was arraigned Aug. 28 and ordered held on $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond during his court appearance at First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said Highsmith approached a 21-year-old man at a home on Harvard Street in Hempstead around 2 a.m. on Wednesday. He allegedly pointed a revolver-style gun at the victim and “forcibly took” an undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry, police said. The victim’s cell phone was also stolen.
Authorities said Highsmith initially fled in a 2003 Lincoln, but was arrested after being stopped by responding Hempstead Village police officers. He was arrested without incident.
The victim was not injured.
Highsmith was charged with first-degree robbery and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is due back in court again on Friday.
