Freekibble.com is a website, launched in 2008, that posts a daily multiple choice question regarding dogs, and upon answering (right or wrong) 10 pieces of kibble get provided to shelters. It’s called Bow Wow Trivia and you can view the entire archive of questions and answers. Anyone can play once a day and help provide for free. They even have a daily reminder service. The more people do it, the more food gets given out.
Since its inception by a girl named Mimi Ausland, 11 years old at the time, who wanted to help feed shelter pets, they have provided over 8 million meals. The kibble is sponsored by the pet food company Halo which is co-owned by the one and only Ellen Degeneres. Halo offers holistic products so you know quality kibble is being provided to places in need. If you like math and care to find out, in a half cup of dime sized kibble, there are approximately 166 pieces. 213,634,740 pieces of kibble were provided for dogs in 2013 alone. Or about 2,573,912 cups.
U.S. wide, there’s even a map on the website you can click on to see what shelters, rescues, and food banks receive meals from Freekibble. In Washington, they include:
Seattle Humane Society, Seattle
Tacoma Humane Society, Tacoma
Must Love Dogs, Vancouver
Homeward Pet Adoption, Woodinville
Kitsap Humane Society, Silverdale
West Columbia Gorge H.S., Washougal
Purrfect Pals, Arlington
There’s also a Freekibble for cats. So next time you’re at home or work just messing around on the internet, take a minute to play a single trivia question and not only will you help provide free kibble to animals in need, but you’ll learn something too! Not a bad way to spend a minute or two every day.
