The Freehold Area Running Club’s 24th Annual St Paddy’s Day 10 Miler was held on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Michael J. Tighe Park, Georgia Road, Freehold Township, N.J. In conjunction with the 10 miler there was also a competitive Leprechaun 5K.
There was a dusting of snow on the ground in the morning and it made for a scenic start and run through the area surrounding the park for the nearly thousand participants in the two events.
Many runners wore something green for the occasion.
The 10 miler went off first at 9:30 a.m. and the runners made their way out of the park. About 15 minutes later the 5K followed,. It was chilly at the start but the sun did come out and the weather was near ideal for the event.
Coming in first in the 5K was Chris Poss of Manchester, N.J. in a time of 16:01. He was followed by Billy Foster of South River , N.J. in 17:43 and then Eddie Carvents of Lakewood, N.J. in 18:33.
For the women it was Carolyn Rodgers of Toms River, N.J. in a time of 22:41. She was followed closely behind by 13 year old Rachel Kenny of Matawan, N.J. in 23:20 and then Melanie Lerner of Rumson, N.J. in 24:38.

In the 10 miler the overall winner was Craig Segal of Highlands, N.J.and Runner's High in Freehold in 51:54 demolishing the rest of the field by over 5 minutes. He was followed by Kyle Hall of Bronx, N.Y. in 57:00 and then Jeff Propert of Wall, N.J. in 58:13.
Coming in first for the women was Jaclyn Janicky of Brick, N.J. in 1:06:56. She was followed by Michelle Quinlan of Morris Plains, N.J. in 1:08:00 and then Heather Jastonek of Brick, N.J. in 1:11:56.
After the events runner were treated to a variety of refreshments to include hot soup and cold beer.
Awards were then presented to overall and age group winners.
The event was staged by an enthusiastic group of volunteers from the Freehold Area Running Club.
