Freehold Area Running Club hosts 25th Annual St. Paddy's Day Races

The Freehold Area Running Club held their 25th Annual St Paddy’s Day Race at Michael Tighe Park in Freehold Township N.J. on Sunday, March 23, 2014.

This year he traditional 10 miler was changed to a 10K and labeled the Shamrock 10K. There was also the Leprechaun 5K.

The weather was near ideal for the races as they took off from inside the park and made their way through the neighboring community and returned back for a finish inside the park

In the 5k the overall winner was Nicole Strand of Robbinsville in a time of 18:01. She was followed for the women by Amy Bernstein of East Windsor in 19:56 and then Kathleen Briton of Aberdeen in 23:46.

For the men and second overall was Jeffrey Angelini of Yardville in 18:40. He was followed by Nick Ackerman of Manalapan in 19:06 and then William Spector also of Manalapan in 19:34.

In the Shamrock 10K the first overall finisher belonged to the men. Ben Hutterer of Red Bank was first overall in an amazing time of 32:09. He was nearly 3 minutes ahead of the second place finisher Jeff Propert of Wall who finished in 35:11. Rounding out the top three was Chris Whitehead of Wall in a time of 38:17.

For the women it was Jacqui Gordon of Point Pleaant in 40:38. She was followed by Megan Gubbins of Southampton, N.Y. then Jayne Condon of Wall in 42:53 and then Maggie Freeman of Manalapan in 43:07.

Awards were presented in the park after the race to the top finishers and age group winners.
