Start of the New Year is a great time to dust off your old resume and add or modify content. The University of Phoenix Chandler Learning Center is offering a workshop this Wednesday evening that is free and open to the public (see details below). Whether you are actively in career transition mode or not, updating your resume every 30 days is a good habit to start for the New Year. Here are 5 quick questions to evaluate content on your resume:
- Are your most recent accomplishments at work, school, organizations, and community service on your resume?
- Have you volunteered somewhere that is not listed on your resume yet?
- What leadership activities have you done since the last update? - These can be informal leadership opportunities such as mentoring someone or assisting with training for a new or existing employee.
- Did you list experience that separates your skills from the competition? (Language skills, technical skills, certifications, licenses, military experience…)
- Should you arrange the information chronologically or functionally based on the jobs you would apply for at this point in your career?
