Wine Depot 555 is South Beach, Miami Beach has been around for a couple of years now, but it's morphing, in a tasty way. Frenchman Emmanuel Pelletier has taken over the establishment's reins, remodeled the distinctive wine depot and modernized it to entice the SoBe crowd. Gone are the couches and coffee tables. Now the bistro boasts an ample, romantic 2,500 sq. ft. outdoor restaurant under the moonlit sky as well as a huge wine cellar interior that is reminiscent of wine tasting places found throughout the French countryside. Emmanuel also installed an impressive horseshoe stainless steel bar which overlooks the high-top barrel tables that are fun to sit and sip at.
Besides the vast wine list, the 555 menu focuses on signature dishes from the Mediterranean region with smaller but delicious portions that are meant to compliment the wine-tasting experience. Enjoy the foie-gras "au torchon" or the escargots or Pata Negra or Filet Mignon brochettes with truffles which are just a few of their "you've just got to taste this" menu items. The newest yummies at the eatery's grilling station are the Rib Eye or the Skirt steaks, Rack of lamb, lobster tails or the tuna dishes which are served with grilled fingerling potatoes, tomatoes and "petite" green salad, topped with a spoonful of either grainy mustard or herbs and virgin olive oil.
Following the success of their Complimentary Tuesday Wine Tastings, Emmanuel is planning additional events such as their yearly Wine Fair which will start on April 3rd and run through April 17th, 2014.
Reservations for all events are recommended. Get there early and park for free in their back parking lot. The Wine Depot is located at 555 Jefferson Ave., Miami Beach, 33139. Details: www.wd555usa,com
