Free text messaging from your computer

            Callwave

There are those of us who would rather text than call. It's just more to the point. We texters know enough to pay a flat fee for unlimited texting.

When I'm at home, in front of my laptop and I need to send someone a text message I don't even have to get off my butt to find my cell phone. I use the CallWave Text Messaging gadget, installed on my iGoogle homepage and can send text messages, for free, right from my laptop. This free version has a lot of cool little features. It will keep your contact list for you... which you can edit. You can set it to have text replies sent to either your phone, email or both. You can get the CallWave Text Messaging widget for Yahoo here.

The coolest CallWave feature allows you to listen to the caller as they're leaving you a voicemail! You can press "1" at any time to speak to the caller. How cool is that?

They have another gadget... CallWave Free Visual Voicemail , which "enables you to see and hear your mobile phone voice mail messages right on your computer. This innovative service works with most US carriers including Cingular, Verizon, T-Mobile, and over 30 others nationwide using any cell phone." The Yahoo widget for this free service is called CallWave Virtual Voice Mail.

If you don't have or want an iGoogle or Yahoo homepage, you can download Callwave for your desktop. There is a Mac and a Windows version.

There are several free text messaging gadgets and widgets out there. I've tried most, if not all of them. CallWave is not only better looking, it has the best features, functionality and ease of use.

I read this article the other day and just had to come back and leave a comment. I can't believe this is free. It's a great little gadget. I installed the desktop version even though I have Google. Then I thought tto do the gadget anyway to see if there was a difference. This is really good for me. I take my laptop everywhere. I can text now while I'm on it and can take calls too. Its great. Thanks.
