Any Muslim who thinks they have no friends in talk radio should tune in to Free Talk Live, a nationally syndicated open lines call in show broadcast out of Keene New Hampshire.
Mid-December, talk radio blowhard Michael Savage offered Newt Gingrich $1 million dollars to drop out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination. In response, another talk radio blowhard Mark Levin offered Michael Savage $100,000 to drop out of talk radio. These were just cheap publicity stunts to grab some easy headlines. Gingrich and Savage aren’t going anywhere. But the regular hosts of Free Talk Live put a cherry on that neo-con sundae that should be getting Muslims’ attention.
Ian Freeman and Mark Edge have pledged $1,000 to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in the name of “peace, freedom and compassion for other humans” if Levin and Savage will have lunch with a Muslim and an undocumented worker. In addition, the two blowhards have to do less than 40% of the talking and upload the video to YouTube to prove they actually listened for a change.
The idea began on the Free Talk Live Facebook page where Edge jokingly offered Lavin “Tree Fidy” ($3.50, the approximate value of a BitCoin) to stop talking like Penguin from the old Batman TV series. Right now there is a Chip-In on the Free Talk Live homepage where you can contribute to the donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The donation drive has raised 98% of their goal so far, and is set to end January 16th.
The show’s other host and founder Ian Freeman was jailed for 90 days last August for sitting in front of the police vehicle as a friend of his was arrested for a victimless crime. During his stay in the Cheshire County Jail, which he called the “Keene Spiritual Retreat,” Freeman decided to read the Quran cover to cover which inspired him to write a blog post from jail titled “The Greater Jihad.” It’s one of the best things I’ve read on the subject. Check out this quote:
“For Muslims, and certainly for the liberty movement, it is the internal struggle that is the greatest challenge… Defeating the fear we create for ourselves is indeed the greatest jihad.”
He points out what I had never considered, that the strategy of the Free State Project, to move thousands of liberty minded individuals to New Hampshire to consolidate their activism, is the same strategy as the early Muslim community’s move from Mecca to Medina.
Freeman and Edge, both Quakers, stand up for Muslims on their show when they’re confronted by bigoted or misinformed callers. I’d request that Muslim do their part to support their show, even if it’s just by downloading their free podcast. I’ve upgraded to a Gold AMPlifier in their Advertise Market and Promote (AMP) Program, and if Savage or Levin ever actually take them up on their offer (which I serious doubt will ever happen) I’d love to be the Muslim at the table. I’d especially like to talk to Mark Lavin about his book “Liberty and Tyranny” because I think he has a lot to learn about both.
